Mary Griep artist talk

her artist talk was very short, but concise. her work is really beautiful in highlighting the architectural art that these buildings are made of. i like how she is interested in the intent and mark making of man. i think that is what is missing in our modern day architecture is that there is zero attention to detail and a sense of "art". these building are so pure with human design and beauty, there is a real mastery and craftsman ship that i really appreciate about Greips work highlighting. i was worried about the appropriation aspect of her work as she is a foreigner coming into these lands to make art about their culture, seems very appropriation-ie, but i believe she is very careful about it and respectful because she does a lot of research about it and isn't saying "this is my art" or attaching meaning that isn't intended or disrespectful of the culture and people, she is simple giving a platform for people to appreciate the culture and art of these people that they may not have already. she does a lot of research about the buildings and the history around them, trying to be as respectful as she can be because she is just an admirer of the art and work that went into these masterpieces and wanted to display them as such, works of art.
