my artist talk is about takashi murakami
i make two thesis throughout my talk and establish an extensive history of his work and how it relates to art history and Barthes text
thesis 1:
“Takashi Murakami embodies the idea of the Text Depicted by Barthes by making his work exist beyond the present and incorporating chaos to lead interpretation and consumption”
thesis 2:
“takashi Murakami represents the death of the Author by becoming the art, but critiques this idea by becoming the Art. He is a Persona, but present in his Art and as Art.”
because there is just so much work with takashi that related to text and history and interpretation and then also his whole dynamic as being the Andy Warhol of Japan that i had to make 2 points and extend my thoughts about this.
