Mini project 1
i think the series and cast of Jackass should be elevated to the status of "art object". specifically, for obvious reasons, performance art. i think i museums, it should be displayed with mock installations of the actual performance, maybe in another room with stills and video of their performance, and then focus on the cast. jackass represents the times of male rebellion and youth. a desperate need to stay young with the turning century. however it also plays on the toxic masculinity and mocks male roles in society. Jackass is a group of guys who push themselves through pain and torture for a laugh. for some it was the pinnacle of comedy, for others it was a grotesque display of the human condition. what makes it art is the elaborate display and mechanisms that go into play, the nuanced ways of getting the jump on the other cast members and literally go into society and fuck with it. it was a freedom that many people looked on these boys with envy as they are living out their inner most diabolical fantasy.
